Last week, the Government of Canada invested $2.7 million in former Ignite Awards winner Aspect Biosystems as part of the Western Innovation Initiative (WINN). WINN promotes the development and diversification of the western Canadian economy by providing financial support to help tech SMEs accelerate the commercialization of their innovation. This year, WINN has funded 17 British Columbian projects, with total project funding reaching nearly $20 million.
Aspect Biosystems was awarded $139,700 in funding from Innovate BC’s Ignite program in 2017 for their work in 3D bioprinting and tissue engineering. Their proprietary Lab-on-a-Printer platform technology enables advances in biology, disease research, novel therapeutics and regenerative medicine. Aspect Biosystems partnered with the University of Victoria to accelerate the development of cures and therapeutics for patients suffering from a wide range of conditions.
The Ignite program provides up to $300,000 to fund innovation projects in the areas of natural resources, applied sciences, and engineering. Partners from industry and academia pair up to commercialize their market-driven research projects affecting BC businesses.
Apply for the next round of Ignite funding from Innovate BC by submitting your Letter of Intent before January 28th, 2019.
