#BCTECHSummit showcases B.C. innovation that’s solving global problems

The fourth annual #BCTECHSummit, presented by Rogers, concluded yesterday, attracting more than 3,500 full delegates over the course of three days while showcasing B.C. innovation solving global problems. The event, which has become Western Canada’s largest annual innovation conference, brought together more than 1,200 organizations from around the world.

“Businesses all over the world are quickly realizing that tech and innovation are revolutionizing every part of our global economy,” says Innovate BC’s President and CEO, Raghwa Gopal. “That’s why year after year, this event draws more people, from an increasing breadth of industries. The 2019 #BCTECHSummit has truly become a one-stop shop for industry leaders, government, investors, and entrepreneurs to come together to learn, share, and collaborate.”

This year’s event welcomed delegates from 15 different countries and more than three dozen unique sectors. Other highlights included:

• The Investment Showcase, which gave 50 of Cascadia’s top tech startups an opportunity to pitch more than 100 local and international investors.
• Youth Innovation Day, which brought together 1,000 high school students from all over the province to learn about future career opportunities in STEM.
• Innovation Challenges, which gave large organizations a platform to pitch their business challenges to local and international solution providers.
• An onsite Job Fair, which saw more than 800 job seekers meet with 14 hiring companies, including Rogers, Eventbrite, and Clio.
• Six regional houses, which showcased how technology is driving growth and innovation across the province.
• A dozen side events, which included nerd nights, bootcamps, and offsite parties.

The event also attracted some of the world’s biggest brands, including Microsoft, IBM, Fujitsu and WeWork, while also featuring some of B.C.’s fastest growing companies like Article, General Fusion, and Finn AI.
