In Round 4 of Innovate BC's Ignite Program, UBC and Acuva Technologies partnered up to create a cost-efficient, maintenance-free ultraviolet water purification device, capable of off-the-grid operations. The team was awarded $300,000 in March of 2018 to develop the technology.
Now, the Acuva Eco 1.5 purifier has become the first and only UV-LED drinking water purifier in the world to receive the NSF/ANSI 55 Class B Certification for verified microbiological disinfection.
"NSF/ANSI 55 is one of the most established and trusted standards for ultraviolet (UV) microbiological water treatment systems. Eco 1.5 exceeded all of the Class B microbial disinfection requirements." stated Dr. Ashkan Babaie, Acuva's Director of Advanced Engineering in an interview with Cision.
The Eco 1.5 is environmentally friendly, innovative, and uses up to 95% less energy than traditional UV-lamps. Applications for the purifier include after-market RV's and boats, home kitchens, and off-the-grid applications.
The Acuva Eco 1.5 is officially available September 2018.
